Colin Turkington won the championship by five points |
Colin Turkington has won the British Touring Car Championship by five points from nearest challenger Jason Plato. Turkington accumulated 275 points over the 30-race series, with Plato on 270 and Fabrizio Giovanardi third on 266. In Sunday's final round at the Brands Hatch GP circuit, Turkington finished eighth in race one, third in race two and second in the day's final race. Plato won all three races but it was not enough to stop the triumphant Team RAC BMW driver from Portadown. "I can't believe it and I can't describe the feeling of winning this championship," said Turkington after securing the title. "Everything I have done in motorsport has been geared towards this moment - this is the championship I really wanted. "All my family came over from Northern Ireland to watch the final round, including my grandfather who is 91," added the Portadown man.
