King's Lynn clinch Premier Trophy

The stars celebrated lifting their second trophy in a week

King's Lynn Stars overhauled a 13-point deficit in the second leg of the Premier Trophy final to beat in-form Edinburgh Monarchs.

The Stars' Swedish rider Linus Eklof top-scored at the Norfolk Arena as they beat the Monarchs 58-38.

The tie finished 99-92 on aggregate and the win means the Stars are closer to winning the treble.

They have won the Premier League and next up is the Premier League KO Cup semi-final against Scunthorpe.

Stars team manager Rob Lyon was delighted with how his side fought back to win the Premier Trophy.

"Edinburgh are probably the strongest team in the league and we made them look ordinary," he said.

He's always had the ability but he had a bit of a lull. That was frustrating for him and for everyone here but it's good to see him come back and score like that

Rob Lyon on Linus Eklof

Linus Eklof was the pick of the King's Lynn team during the final and his team manager singled him out for praise after the win.

"Without a doubt he's been our match winner over the two legs. He's been our man of the match on both occasions," Rob Lyon said.

The Sweden under-19 rider joined the Stars as injury cover for Christian Henry just after the season got underway.

Lyon told BBC Radio Norfolk that Eklof has suffered from inconsistency during parts of the season.

"He's always had the ability but he had a bit of a lull. That was frustrating for him and for everyone here but it's good to see him come back and score like that," he added.

The Stars are on course to win the treble as they did back in 2006.

They ride in the first leg of the Premier League KO Cup semi-final against Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Norfolk Arena on Tuesday.
