Jason Bunyan has averaged 8.45 for Stoke in the Premier League
Stoke Potters rider Jason Bunyan said he is happy to commit himself to another year with the club after a fine debut season in 2009.
But he is seeking assurances that he will be able to get sufficient funding to maintain and improve his equipment.
"Next year will definitely hinge on the help we get," he told BBC Radio Stoke.
"If people come forward, I would love to be there again, but I can't carry on with no help as the worst-sponsored number one in the Premier League."
He continued: "It's harder in an area like Stoke, where they haven't had the success in recent years.
"There's not that enthusiasm that's been there in the past, although the crowds coming to watch Stoke speedway do seem to be getting bigger."
Bunyan has been the star performer for the Potters in the Premier League, averaging over eight points per meeting.
His form is likely to have alerted Elite League clubs to his potential, although Bunyan has admitted that the jump in quality may prove too big for him.
"It's probably going to take me £10,000 on top of the equipment that I already need to reach Elite League standard," added the 30-year-old.
"It's not really in my budget at the minute, to fork out that sort of money just to find out if I can do it."
