| US Masters Tiger watch Tiger Woods sets the standards that others must follow Hole-by-hole action from the fourth round of the US Masters as Tiger Woods aims for a record fourth Major win in a row. 1st hole: Woods immediately slips up and starts his final round as he did his first with a bogey five at the opening hole. 2nd hole: After seeing his playing partner take the lead on 12 under after sinking a birdie putt, Woods follows suit with his first birdie of the day at the longest hole on the course.
Mickelson matches Woods' par with a putt from eight feet after finding sand. Woods -12 (tied 1st) 4th hole: Woods makes par and takes the outright lead after Mickelson drops a shot at the 205-yard par three. 5th hole: Woods makes another par, his third in a row, but Mickelson makes an important birdie to draw level with his compatriot at the top of the leaderboard. 6th hole: Whereas his playing partner only finds the fringe of the green at the 180-yard par three, Woods lands his ball in the heart of the green. 7th hole: After missing a short putt at the previous hole, Mickelson rolls one in from 20 feet. 8th hole: At the 550-yard par five Woods fires a huge approach shot which finds the fringe of the green to the right. 9th hole: Woods' approach shot is on target but spins back off the grin and nestles in the fringing slope at the front of the 9th.
Woods is annoyed with his approach shot which only finds the fringe. But after a wayward first putt, his second, from 10 feet, arrows into the hole. Mickeslon, despite finding rough off the tee and a green-side bunker, again matches Woods. Woods -14 (tied 1st) 11th hole: The galleries erupt as Woods plays an immaculate approach to within two feet of the hole. He duly sinks the putt to take the lead of the Masters on his own from Duval. 12th hole: Woods finds the bunker at the back off the green after over-hitting his drive at the shortest hole on the course.
Both players find the green, Woods inside of Mickelson, to set up eagle opportunities which they two putt for a brace of birdies. Woods -15 (1st) 14th hole: Woods is infuriated when his approach shot pitches and sticks on the fringe of the green instead of spinning back towards the flag as Mickelson's effort does. 15th hole: A click of a camera from the crowd stops Woods mid back swing on the tee. 16th hole: Both players spear their tee shots across the water into the heart of the green at the 170-yard par three.
His delicate chip to the pin looks to be going in but bobbles two feet by. Mickelson also sees his birdie effort go close but both players have to settle for par. With a hole to play Woods holds a one shot advantage over Duval and is two clear of Mickelson. Woods -15 (1st) 18th hole: Needing a regulation four on the final hole, Woods rifles his tee shot into the heart of the fairway. Woods wins by two shots from Duval, and three from Mickelson. | Top US Masters stories now: Links to more US Masters stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
