| Monty misses Masters cut In trouble: Montgomerie plays out of the trees Colin Montgomerie crashed out of the US Masters at the half-way stage as his desperate bid for a Major title suffered another blow. But he was in illustrious company as a number of Europe's top players followed him through the exit door. Three-time winner Nick Faldo also failed to make the cut, along with Greg Norman, Ian Woosnam, Seve Ballesteros and Sandy Lyle. Perhaps the most surprising player to miss out, though, was Thomas Bjorn. With three shots of his second round to play, the in-form Dane, who had beaten his good friend Tiger Woods this season, looked well set at three under. But a triple-bogey six at the short 16th was followed with a double-bogey at the last - and he suddenly found himself in the wrong half of the field at two over.
The seven-time European number one started the day well enough and was handily-placed at one under after eight holes. But the wheels came off his challenge on the back nine as he followed a bogey at the 9th with a disasterous triple-bogey at the 10th. A six at the long 13th quickly followed and a closing bogey completed his misery. Faldo joined Montgomerie on the sidelines as three successive bogeys from the 12th put him seven over. Woosie woe Faldo's former Ryder Cup team-mate Ian Woosnam took a quite amazing exit. Out in 40 was bad enough - but what followed was totally bizarre. The 1991 champion birdied the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 18th - but at both the 455-yard 11th and 500-yard 15th he ran up eights to leave him four over. Greg Norman will want to forget day two after carding his worst round in 21 Masters. One under par overnight and very much within touch of the leaders, the Australian crashed to an 82 for a nine-over-par total of 153. | Top US Masters stories now: Links to more US Masters stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
