Nice one as Murtagh wins again
Storming Home
Storming Home timed its run to perfection
Johnny Murtagh landed his fifth winner of the Royal Ascot meeting as Nice One Clare won the Wokingham Stakes with a brilliant run along the rails.

Murtagh wins the London Club Trophy as top jockey at the meeting. His five winners were Black Minnaloushe, Sahara Slew. Royal Rebel, Beekeeper and Nice One Clare.

Frankie Dettori is next in the rankings with three winners.

Murtagh also picked up two bans at the meeting totalling six days and ruling him out of next week's Irish Derby.

After his fifth win, he said: "It must have been an easy ride because I'm not in the stewards' room over the stick!

"I was always travelling so well and she has got a super turn of foot and that's what you need to win these big handicaps here.

"She idled a bit when she hit the front but when Willie Supple came to challenge, she found something extra."

Murtagh's mount, the 7-1 favourite, just held on to defeat Ellen's Academy with Seven No Trumps in third place.

Kathology had led the six-furlong cavalry charge, but once again the lower drawn horses stormed ahead in the closing stages.

Pip Pane's charge was the first favourite to win the Wokingham since 1987.

Earlier, Sandmason give Henry Cecil his first winner of this year's Royal Ascot meeting with a photo finish victory over Zindabad in the Hardwicke Stakes.

It was Cecil's 69nd winner at Royal Ascot, although stable-mate Wellbeing, which went off as 2-1 favourite, was never in the running and finished in fifth place.

Sandmason, a 12-1 shot with Willie Ryan on board, dictated the pace, and proved that it was much more than a pacemaker for Wellbeing when it fought back in the final furlong to pip Zindabad by the narrowest possible margin.

Hills double

Winning trainer Henry Cecil said: "I did expect the other horse (Wellbeing) to come through, it's been a very up and down week. I thought I had lost but it's very difficult up top and someone told me I had won."

Storming Home left hot favourite Milan trailing in its wake as it lived up to its name to win the King Edward VII Stakes.

Michael Hills guided the 9-2 chance home for his father Barry with an impeccably timed run, taking the lead two furlongs out.

The three-year-old, fifth in the Derby, finished a length and a quarter ahead of Snowstorm with Theatre Script in third place.

Milan, which went off at 13-8, was unable to match Storming Home's late surge and finished well off the pace in fourth place.

Winning trainer Barry Hills said: "I was very impressed with him and he travelled really well."

Jockey Michael Hills said: "It's great, a big thrill to ride a winner here and I was very excited when I passed the line. He's improving and he's got a turn of foot."

The winner has been quoted at 16/1 for the King George and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.

The 8/1 shot Irony gave Jamie Osborne his first Royal Ascot winner with victory in the Windsor Castle stakes, just edging out Steaming Home.
