Composed win for Mozart
Mozart wins the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot
Mozart wins the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot
Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien landed his third winner of Royal Ascot 2001 on Wednesday when the hotly-fancied Mozart held on by a shrinking neck to land the Jersey Stakes.

Stable jockey Michael Kinane, who missed out on O'Brien's two Tuesday winners, was wreathed in smiles after the 7-4 favourite lasted to the line in the seven furlong race.

Second was the fast-finishing 10-1 shot Aldebaran, while, third, three quarters of a length back at the generous odds of 100-1, was Ratio.

O'Brien, who has won five European classics this season, was delighted by his stable's most fancied horse of the week, who proved to be a true friend to hard-pressed punters.

"He did it real well," O'Brien said.

"This horse was working unbelievably at home," he said of the Irish 2,000 Guineas runner-up, who may now revert to sprinting and was speedily introduced as a 4-1 chance for the July Cup at Newmarket.

"The plan has always been to go back to sprinting. Michael gave him a beautiful ride today."

Queen's Logic gave trainer, Mick Channon, his second win in the Queen Mary Stakes, by denying the O'Brien-Kinane combination's Sophisticat.

Channon, who won the Queen Mary in 1998 with Bint Allayl, said: "We've always thought she was a high class filly.

"My worry was the fact that we were staying at five furlongs - we know she needs six now.

O'Brien said he felt Sophisticat was not helped by racing towards the centre of the track from her draw in stall 19.

"She ran a great race but the draw didn't help her," he said.

Full result, 1430BST:
1 Mozart, M J Kinane 7-4 Fav
2 Aldebaran, T Quinn 10-1
3 Ratio Martin, Dwyer 100-1

Full result, 1505BST:

2 Sophisticat, M J Kinane 6-1
3 Roundtree, T Quinn 10-1
