| And Beyond goes all the way And Beyond provided another Royal Ascot boost for trainer Mark Johnston by taking the Group Two Queen's Vase race. Earlier the Johnston stable had scored a one-two in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes with Takamaka Bay and Gallery God. Kevin Darley went one better on And Beyond to win his first race of the meeting. And Beyond overcame Frankie Dettori's ride When In Rome with a late run. Johnson, celebrating his second double at the Royal meeting, sees And Beyond as a horse who could return in 12 months for the Gold Cup. "Kevin said he would have been an unlucky loser and it wouldn't have been his style of running to have been stuck in like that," he said. "He couldn't move up when he wanted. He stays well and we'll go easy with him. He's obviously a Cup horse for next year." Aidan O'Brien completed a double by landing the closing Coventry Stakes for the third time in four years. Mick Kinane missed out again as he chose to ride the unplaced Rock Of Gibraltar, with stable-jockey Jamie Spencer taking the mount on the victorious Landseer. Landseer pipped Firebreak and Meshaheer in a finish of necks. "Rock of Gibraltar got bumped after half a furlong," O'Brien said. "The winner always was a lovely horse, we will look at the July Stakes or possibly the Heinz for him now." Full results Royal Ascot 1730BST: |
