Tendulkar reaches 10,000 runs

Tendulkar made 139 from only 125 balls with 19 fours. It overshadowed a career-best 83 in 88 balls by Vangipurappu Laxman.

Those two dominated the innings, assembling a partnership of 199 for the second wicket in 29.4 overs.

But Saurav Ganguly's poor run of form continued. The Indian captain replaced Laxman and failed to score before being caught by Michael Bevan off Damien Fleming.

Fleming was the pick of the tourists' attack. He also dismissed Rahul Dravid as his ten overs cost 34.

Glenn McGrath finished with three wickets for 52, but Shane Warne's ten overs went for 64 and the ten overs cobbled together by Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds and Michael Bevan were hit for 94.

Gilchrist top scored for Australia

Australia's reply began well. Adam Gilchrist hared to a half century and at 102 for one, the tourists appeared well set.

But once Gilchrist (63 from 70 balls) fell to Harbhajan Singh in the 19th over, Australia's innings subsided.

Ricky Ponting followed in the next over - one of three wickets for the medium pace of Ajit Agarkar - as they slid to 136 for seven and out of contention.

Harbhajan also claimed three wickets as India took a 2-1 lead in the five match series.
