| Tour over for Waugh Waugh is one of the world's most stylish batsman Australian batsman Mark Waugh is to fly home from India after x-rays confirmed he has a broken finger. The 35-year-old suffered the injury when he was struck by a ball from Javagal Srinath during his innings of 133 not out in Wednesday's one-day international at Pune. "At a push he could continue to play. However, we are taking a safety-first approach in the best interests of Mark and Australian cricket," said team physio Patrick Farhat. Waugh, who split the webbing between two finhgers on his left hand earlier in the tour, is to see a specialist in Sydney when he arrives home and the injury is likely to keep him out cricket for at least two weeks. It is unlikely, however, to jeopardise his chances of playing in this summer's Ashes series in England.
"I can take this opportunity to have an extra break ahead of an intense period of cricket for the Australian team, starting with the tour of the UK in late May, if selected," he said. India and Australia play the third one-day international at Indore on Saturday, having so far managed one win each. Opening batsman Matthew Hayden may be rested by the tourists despite scoring 57 in Pune. "We are following our rotational policy. Even in the one-dayers in Australia over the last season, we rotated out eleven. "We have decided to do this irrespective of results," said vice-captain Adam Gilchrist, who will return to opening the innings. Seam bowler Shane Lee is set to make his first appearance since joining the tour. Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has, meanwhile, urged his team to raise their game. "You give the Aussies an inch and they'll take a mile. We had a poor match at Pune and I don't want to see that happening again," he said. Following the game at Indore, the two teams will meet at Visakhapatnam on Monday, with the final game of the tour at Goa three days later. | See also: 28 Mar 01 | India v Australia 28 Mar 01 | India v Australia 27 Mar 01 | India v Australia 25 Mar 01 | India v Australia 24 Mar 01 | India v Australia 21 Mar 01 | India v Australia Top India v Australia stories now: Links to more India v Australia stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
