Indian all-rounder Virender Sehwag will miss the rest of the one-day series against Australia because of a broken thumb.

It follows his Man of the Match performance in Sunday's first game at Bangalore, which India won by 60 runs.

The 22-year-old scored 58 off only 54 balls and took three for 59 with his off-spin, but damaged his thumb while fielding.

Jaywant Lele, seceretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, confirmed that Sehwag required surgery and would miss the four remaining matches.

He will be replaced by Yuvraj Singh, but he is expected to link up with the squad at Indore, where the third game will take place on Saturday.

Yuvraj, 19, was a member of the Indian squad which reached the ICC Knockout Trophy final in Kenya last year, before losing to New Zealand.

He made his last one-day appearance against Zimbabwe at Rajkot last December, scoring 29 in a 39-run victory.
