Sri Lanka axe World Cup hero
Aravinda de Silva scored a hundred against Australia when Sri Lanka won the 1996 World Cup
De Silva's one-day career may be over
Veteran batsman Aravinda de Silva has been left out of Sri Lanka's squad for the three one-day internationals against England.

He has scored 8,430 runs in 275 one-day appearances, including a century in the 1996 World Cup final,

De Silva played in the five-match series in New Zealand earlier this year, which Sri Lanka won 4-1, but is now 35 and the selectors have decided to look to the future.

Romesh Kaluwitharana returns to the squad and will keep wicket in place of Kumar Sangakkara, who will play as a specialist batsman.

Kaluwitharana has been a regular opening partner for captain Sanath Jayasuriya in the limited overs game and scored 2,970 runs in 153 matches.

The squad includes one new face in fast medium bowler Akalanka Ganegame, who will be 20 next week.

He clinched his place with four wickets for a Board President's XI against England on Wednesday.

The first one-dayer takes place at the new Dambulla Stadium on Friday.

The teams then return to Colombo for Sunday's match at the Premadasa Stadium, with the final game taking place at the Sinhelse Sports Club next Tuesday.

Sri Lanka squad: S Jayasuriya (capt), M Atapattu, R Kaluwitharana, M Jayawardene, K Sangakkara, R Arnold, K Dharmasena, C Vaas, N Zoysa, TM Dilshan, M Muralitharan, I de Saram, A Ganegama, T Samaraweera, L de Silva.
