Retief Goosen leads the way on 12 under par after the second round at the BMW International Open in Munich.

The South African shot a 68 to lie one shot clear of Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen, who went round in 65 at the Golfclub Munchen Nord-Eichenreid.

Nick Dougherty and David Drysdale are tied for third on 10 under after a 65 and 64 respectively on Friday.

Bernhard Langer, 51, had a 68 to move to eight under on the course where he was once an assistant pro.

John Daly missed the cut on level par and European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie only just made it through on three under after a 71 containing six birdies and five bogeys.

Goosen, who shot a first-round 64, was pleased with his round despite some putting problems.

I started out as an assistant pro here in Munich and would love to finally win in front of all my friends and family

Local favourite Bernard Langer

"Some of the pin positions were a lot tougher and I am sure the scoring overall will be a bit higher," said Goosen.

"But I am very happy with the way I played. Maybe I didn't hole as many putts as I did in the first round, but I am pretty sure my score will be among the leaders at the end of the day."

Dougherty had two eagles on the front nine and if he maintains his form over the final two rounds there could be an unexpected bonus for him - a place in The Open at Turnberry.

Made aware that two exempt spots are on offer from a mini-Order of Merit in which he currently lies sixth, Dougherty said: "I'd love to play, but the best way is to stay in the now and I'm trying to win this."

Drysdale, a 34-year-old from Edinburgh, got a boost at the 11th where he hit a fine three-wood second shot to set up an eagle putt from 12 feet.

Ten times a visitor to the Tour qualifying school, he is enjoying his best ever season, with second and third place finishes already and now has a shot at his first victory.

Langer also moved up the leaderboard as the German attempts to win his home tournament for the first time in 19 attempts.

"I started out as an assistant pro here in Munich and would love to finally win in front of all my friends and family," said Langer.
