Rory McIlroy was in impressive form in Germany on Friday

Rory McIlroy played himself into contention at the BMW International Open in Munich after a five-under-par 67 in Friday's second round.

The 20-year-old from Holywood carded six birdies before dropping shots on his 16th and 17th holes.

McIlroy birdied his final hole to finish on six under and six behind leader Retief Goosen of South Africa.

Michael Hoey is three under after a 71 while Peter Lawrie is the best of the Irish on seven under following a 68.
