Wales' Davies turns professional
Rhys Davies
Rhys Davies will begin European Tour qualifying next week
Welsh Walker Cup player Rhys Davies, who qualified for the US Open in June, has turned professional.

The former British Boys champion won both his singles matches at last weekend's Walker Cup against the Americans at Royal County Down.

Davies will compete in European Tour qualifying, starting at St Annes Old Links Golf Club, Lancashire, next week.

"I am really looking forward to getting out there next week," said the 22-year-old from Bridgend.

"I have enjoyed every minute of my amateur career and I think that, between the competitions I have played here and the experience of playing four years of college golf, I have really prepared myself well for the Tour."

During a scholarship at East Tennessee State University, in the United States, Davies lifted 10 titles and in his junior year had the best stroke average in college golf.

He will become a stablemate of Tiger Woods and Colin Montgomerie at International Management Group.
