Australia's Elkington last qualified for the US Open in 1999 |
Steve Elkington qualified for the US Open, but fellow former major winners Mark O'Meara, John Daly, Tom Lehman and Mark Calcavecchia missed out. Elkington, the 1995 USPGA winner, shot scores of 64 and 73 in Memphis to book his berth in next week's Oakmont field.
Also going through at the various sectionals in the US were PGA Tour event winners Kirk Triplett, Olin Browne, Tim Petrovic and Paul Goydos.
Daly shot an opening 73 before pulling out of the Memphis qualifier.
Nine players qualified from the international qualifying competition at Walton Heath in Surrey, with another three going through at Ohtone Country Club near Ibaraki in Japan.
The US Open will be held for a record eighth time at Oakmont, Pennsylvania, next week when Australia's Geoff Ogilvy defends the title he won last year by a shot at Winged Foot.
