Howell has endured months of frustration |
Ryder Cup star David Howell says he hopes to be back playing within a couple of weeks after recovering from a nagging back injury. The problem forced Howell to miss out on defending his PGA Championship title at Wentworth but he says he should be back for the US Open on 14-17 June.
"It would have been preferable to have had a tournament before heading for the US Open," he told his own website.
"But the year's second major at Oakmont is where I will return to the game."
Howell, 31, has had a frustrating time recently with his back problems and also endured a disastrous final round at the Masters in Augusta, after he had been three shots off the lead going into the final day.
"I've been hitting balls for the last couple of days and come through it without aggravating the back problem which has blighted me this season," he said.
"I became sick and tired of not being able to play, but my mood has improved now that I'll be back soon.
"I haven't done much over the last couple of weeks apart from receive treatment and get some rest."
