Rhys Davies failed to make the last eight of the US Amateur Championship in Philadelphia after an agonising matchplay defeat to Austin Eaton. The Welshman, who reached the third round after beating Arnond Vongvanij 4&2, battled back from being two down to go 1up with five holes to play.
But Eaton levelled at the 14th and then held on after taking the lead at the 16th to seal victory.
Fellow Brits, Oliver Fisher and Gary Wolstenholme, lost in the second round.
Sixteen-year-old Fisher lost 5&4 to American George Zahringer while Wolstenholme was never ahead in his 4&2 defeat at the hands of Dillon Dougherty.
Dougherty reached the quarter-finals with a 2&1 win over Dane Burkhart but Zahringer lost out 1up to JC Deacon.
Canadian duo Ryan Yip and Mark Leon, Dawie Van Der Walt of South Africa, Italy's Edoardo Molinari and Anthony Kim of America are the other quarter-finalists.
