Gary Wolstenholme plays Dillon Dougherty in the second round |
The three British survivors at the US Amateur Championship in Philadelphia have all progressed to the second round of the matchplay stage. English teenager Oliver Fisher had to come through a morning play-off just to make the first knockout stage, following two rounds of strokeplay.
But he then beat America's Lee Williams 5 and 3, while Gary Wolstenholme went through one up over Shawn Jasper.
Wales' Rhys Davies also triumphed, beating Todd Mitchell 4 and 3.
The leader after the strokeplay stage, Canada's James Lepp, also progressed.
Lepp beat Kyle Reifers in a sudden-death play-off after they finished their 18 holes level.
Wolstenhome, GB&I's record Walker Cup points scorer, will play America's Dillon Dougherty in the second round.
Sixteen-year-old Fisher meets 52-year-old George Zahringer, and Davies is up against Arnond Vongvanij.
