Annika Sorenstam has ruled out the possibility of playing another men's event after missing the cut at the PGA Colonial event in Texas.
The 32-year-old Swede failed to make the weekend's action after carding a four-over 74 to miss the halfway cut by four strokes at five over par.
After two days of playing under intense scrutiny, Sorenstam shed tears as she thanked the public for their support.
"Even though I was struggling the last few holes, they kept pushing me on - 'it's not too late, you can do it'," she said.
"So I just wanted to thank them for the whole week. When you play a game or a sport that you love and then so many people come out to watch you play and respect what you do, it's so special."
"I've climbed as high as I can, and it's worth every step of it. I won't do this again, but I will always remember it.
"I've had some guys that have said less positive things come up and tell me that they were proud of me.
 I do think if a lady is good enough she should have the right to come here |
"And for them to come up and say that, I admire them for doing that."
Sorenstam also left the door wide open for her LPGA colleagues to take on the challenge in the future.
"I do think if a lady is good enough to either get an invite or if she went to tour school or Monday qualifying, she should have the right to come here.
"It's been so much more than I expected, but it was over my head, I wasn't as tough as I thought I was."
Countryman Jesper Parnevik saluted her gallant effort.
"Being a Swede, I am very proud of her, very impressed with the way she's handled herself. She played amazing, I would have to say.
"I guess we have the Shark, the Tiger and now we have the Superwoman."
Dean Wilson, one of Sorenstam's playing partners, believed that the curiosity surrounding her challenge may have harmed her chances.
"I think it was just too much pressure to put on one person in one round or two rounds of golf," said Wilson.
