SORENSTAM v THE MEN Sorenstam hit a four-over par 74 in round two |
All the action from Fort Worth, where Annika Sorenstam fails to make the cut as the first woman to play a men's event since 1945.Final score: +5 (cut at +1)
st hole Sorenstam tees off to huge cheers and fires her drive to the left edge of the fairway. She lays up with her second, but bunkers her third. Sorenstam chips out to nine feet and nails the putt for a morale boosting par to start.
nd hole After a solid tee shot, Sorenstam fires an eight-iron to within eight feet of the hole. Her putt is perfect and the birdie takes her back to level par and on course to make the cut.
rd hole Sorenstam is playing with aggression and is almost made to pay for it. After another solid tee shot, she fires a seven-wood into the bunker as she attacks the hole. It is the second time she has found a bunker in three holes after a bunker-free first round. But she chips out to five feet and saves par once more.
th hole The plucky Swede fires a seven wood straight at the pin which is cut short in front of a bunker. From 15 feet she rolls her putt agonisingly inches short and taps in for another par.
th hole The par-four fifth cost her a shot in her first round, and she loses another in the second. Her drive clips the trees on the right and drops short in the rough, and after playing out her third goes through the green. Her chip comes up well short but she manages to nail a curling putt from 10 feet to limit her losses.
th hole The sixth hole has been the easiest on the course but Sorenstam leaks a second straight stroke. Her approach falls shy of the green, and her chip comes up short too. The Swede's putt from 15 feet is a much better stroke, but misses the hole by a couple of inches.
She is now one-over for the round and two-over for the tournament, putting her outside the projected cut.
th hole Sorenstam steadies the ship with a hard-earned par. Her tee shot finds the middle of the fairway, but she misses the green again and lands in the light rough on the right. Her short game is getting a good work-out, and her chip to eight feet leaves her a tricky putt, which she holes.
th hole Another shot goes and Sorenstam now has a huge task to make the cut. Her five-iron off the tee is straight at the pin but is well short and two levels below the hole at the front of the green. Her first putt stays one level down 12 feet short, and her par putt goes two feet past.
th hole Her playing partners both miss the green, but Sorenstam is much steadier at the ninth. She plays a safe shot over the water into the heart of the green leaving her a downhill birdie putt. Her putt is always close but misses by six inches to the left leaving her tap-in for par.
th hole Sorenstam loses another shot on the par-three 10th, where she may have hoped to have picked up a shot. She finds the green but her first putt is well short, and she misses her par putt from 12 feet.
th hole Sorenstam finds trouble off the tee, firing deep into the rough. But she plays her way out of trouble, and holds her nerve to hole a tricky putt to save par.
th hole The dream seems to be over as Sorenstam drops another stroke. She leaves herself another testing four-foot putt, and lips out to leave her five over for the tournament.
th hole: The Swede has an opportunity for a birdie, but her 20-foot putt veers just wide and she has to make do with par.
th hole: Sorenstam has her second successive birdie opportunity from 20 feet. Her line is just out and par is the result.
th hole: A chip from the edge of the green fails to find its way into the hole as Sorenstam once again targets birdie. She sinks a five-footer to ensure she stays at five over par.
th hole: The cut moves from par to one over but another workmanlike par from the women's world number one fails to give her any realistic chance of making the cut.
th hole: Sorenstam unleashes a beautiful tee shot to hug the left-hand side of the fairway. She lands her second shot on the green but her massive birdie putt curls just past the hole.
th hole: The Swede saves her worst tee shot of the day for the final hole, smashing it deep into the trees. But a superb recovery shot gives her a nine-foot putt for par and a 36-hole total of five over.
