Inkster clinches Classic win
Julie Inkster
Inkster pulled off a stunning final round
Julie Inkster carded the lowest final-round score in LPGA history on Sunday to win the Corning Classic.

Inkster recorded a course-record 10-under par 62 for a four-stroke win and her 29th career victory.

The 42-year-old looked to have slipped out of contention after a bogey on the 18th hole of her third round.

But she was in scintillating form throughout her final round to keep ahead of Canada's Lorie Kane, who finished second.

Inskster said: "I just was really calm today. I felt good. I felt like I was playing well enough to go out there and shoot a good score.

FINAL LEADERBOARD
-24: Juli Inkster (USA)
-20: Lorie Kane (Can)
-19: Catriona Matthew (Gbr)
-18: Beth Daniel (USA), Meg Mallon (USA)
-16: Soo Yun Kang (Kor), Rosie Jones (USA), Anna Acker-Macosko (USA)

"I just got onto a good roll. I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens on the front side and kept chipping away at it. I really wasn't leaderboard watching."

She completed the front nine in six under and looked set to break Annika Sorenstam's LPGA record round of 59 after sinking three birdies at the start of the back nine.

But she only just managed to save par at the 14th before salvaging a bogey on the 16th.

That brief slip reduced her advantage to two strokes but she pulled well clear with a stunning effort on the penultimate hole.

After landing her tee shot in the bunker, she lofted the ball to within four feet of the hole before gently tapping in with a birdie, a feat she repeated at the 18th.

Catriona Matthew had held the overnight lead but her challenge steadily fell away in the latter stages.

A bogey on the final hole left her with a round of 70 and scuppered her chances of taking second overall.

She had to make do with third place on 19-under, a stroke clear of American duo Beth Daniel and Meg Mallon in fourth.
