 Sorenstam sees her round start to slip away |
Annika Sorenstam missed the cut at the Bank of America Colonial after finishing her two rounds on five over par in her historic appearance on the PGA Tour. Sorenstam became the first woman to play on the men's tour in 58 years when she fired a more than creditable 71 in her first round on Thursday.
But she was unable to match that performance as her second round of 74 left her four shots outside the cut.
Further up the field American duo Kenny Perry and Dan Forsman moved into a two-way tie for the lead at eight-under par.
Afterwards a tearful Sorenstam said: "I had such a great week but I will go back to my own tour where I belong.
"It's been so much more than I expected, but it was over my head, I wasn't as tough as I thought I was."

She began the day knowing that a level-par round of 70 was likely to be the minimum needed to see her through to the final two rounds.
And when she birdied the par-four second after firing her approach to eight feet she had every chance.
She seemed to adopt a more aggressive approach than on Thursday, and it almost cost her as she twice found bunkers in the first three holes.
She saved pars at one and three, but her round started to go downhill on the fifth.
Sorenstam had dropped a shot at the same hole on Thursday, and after a wayward drive she was happy to leak just one after firing her approach through the green.

Two more shots went in the next three holes, and at three over at the turn the size of her task was apparent.
Two more bogeys at 10 and 12 left her at five over, but she finished with six straight pars, including holing out from 10 feet at the last.
She added: "I tried to just play my own game, just hit one shot at a time but with everyone cheering for me I was so nervous.
"I didn't have any touch on the green and in the end that cost me."
Perry and Forsman hold a one-stroke lead over fellow American Jim Furyk, with six others tied for fourth a further shot back.
Scotland's Catriona Matthew moved from 11th after day one into a share of the lead on day two of the LPGA Corning Classic in New York. Her eight-under-par 64 put her level with Canada's Lori Kane in the ladies' tour event.
