Another solid display by Padraig Harrington saw him take the lead after the second round of the Dunhill Links Championship.

The Ryder Cup star birdied his last two holes of the day at Kingsbarns for a second successive round of six-under-par 66.

Overnight leader Eduardo Romero of Argentina, also in action at Kingsbarns, followed his opening 65 with a 68 to lie one shot back.

Another shot behind was Sweden's Mikael Lundberg who had five birdies on his back nine at Carnoustie to card a second 67 in a row.

The 29-year-old Swede, who is yet to win on the European Tour, was delighted with his performance after reeling off birdies on five of the last nine holes.

"I was very pleased with today," said Lundberg, who has missed 12 cuts on this year's European Tour.

"Before this week, I felt I had been putting the worst I had been all season and I knew I had to change something.

"I just changed my grip on my putter and it has been working well.

"Conditions were tough today and I was just happy to get round with a good score."

India's Jyoti Randhawa, who is back in action after a motorcycle accident earlier in the year, had a 69 at St Andrews to lie fourth on nine under alongside another Ryder Cup player Thomas Bjorn.

Sandy Lyle improved on his first-day 69 with a 67 at Kingsbarns to share sixth place with South African Nic Lawrence and Spaniard Santiago Luna.

Simon Dyson was forced to use a new set of clubs after his were stolen from his car in a hotel car park on Thursday night.

The Englishman, who borrowed a set of irons and a driver from Nick Daugherty, shot a second-round 68 at Carnoustie to climb the leaderboard into a share of 16th place on five under par.

"I was absolutely gutted when I found out this morning they had been taken and I panicked a little. I didn't know what to do," he said.

Colin Montgomerie recorded the first albatross on this year's European Tour, holing out with a four-iron from 209 yards at Kingsbarns' par-five third hole.

It helped the Scotsman move to five-under for the tournament.

Sweden's Anders Forsbrand also had a moment to remember with a hole-in-one at the par-three 13th at Carnoustie.
