Lady Imps given FA Cup reprieve

Lincoln Ladies FC

Lincoln Ladies have been reinstated to the FA Women's Cup after Curzon Ashton were thrown out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

An FA hearing on Monday ruled that the Manchester side did not have clearance to play Lauren Aldred in last week's 1-0 fourth round win over Lincoln.

Lady Imps manager Rod Wilson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I was confident the ruling would go in our favour.

"It was an oversight. It's paperwork but it can get you in trouble."

Wilson added: "They put on the form when she registered for them that she hadn't played abroad.

"If you do play abroad you need an international clearance certificate.

"Curzon can appeal, but after the Droylsden-Chesterfield ruling recently, I don't think they'll get anywhere."

Lincoln Ladies will now play their fifth round tie on Sunday, 25 January at Nottingham Forest, who have also been given a second chance in the competition after their conquerors Liverpool were expelled for fielding a suspended player.

Wilson admitted: "We didn't play well against Curzon Ashton, although we should have won easily with or without that player.

"Let's hope the luck is going with us now."
