| Celtic revel in Rovers victory ![]() Rab Douglas and Neil Lennon celebrate the win Celtic manager Martin O'Neill admitted he was delighted that his players finally produced a performance he knew they were capable of to progress to the third round of the Uefa Cup. The Celtic boss acknowledged that his side had let themselves down two weeks ago despite beating Blackburn 1-0 at Celtic Park. But at Ewood Park, O'Neill's men were on top throughout, to leave the critics in no doubt that they could live with the best of them in the English Premiership. "We played very well. We obviously thought we could do better than two weeks ago," O'Neill told BBC Scotland. "That wasn't the Celtic we know and we knew we could play better this time, we knew we could score. "We did that and we deserved to win." O'Neill agreed that the win gave him as much satisfaction as any of the results Celtic had achieved in Europe during his tenure. "Because of all the talk about whether Celtic would be able to play in the Premiership, all the pressure was on us," he added. "They showed their mettle there tonight."
Henrik Larsson admitted Celtic had played poorly in the first leg, but added: "There were a lot of comments from Blackburn players after that game and this should teach them a lesson - never comment until the game is finished." Chris Sutton echoed Larsson's sentiments. "We were disappointed after the first leg and knew it would be difficult tonight," said the former Blackburn man. "But Henrik's goal set us going and we played well from there - in the end it was a good performance from us."
"I thought Celtic played very well. It was a different game to the first one," said Souness. "The first goal changes everything and if we had got the first goal it would have been a different game. "I felt it was hard on us - that's football. For their part they played like a proper European team. "Their back three were outstanding and I thought Chris Sutton was the best player on the pitch, so all credit to them." |
