| Fulham beat 10-man Zagreb ![]() Boa Morte on his way to scoring the opener Dinamo Zagreb 0-3 Fulham E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Luis Boa Morte's first goal in more than a year helped Fulham emerge with a win from their Uefa Cup second round first leg tie against 10-man Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. Boa Morte last scored for the London club in September 2001 but struck the opener in Zagreb to end his barren spell. The Portuguese striker scored just minutes after being cynically brought down by Kristijan Polovanec, who was red carded for a professional foul.
Steve Marlet added a second after the interval for Jean Tigana's side and Barry Hayles' goal rounded off an impressive victory. Fulham had gone into the game on the back of two defeats in the Premiership but handled the intimidating atmosphere at the expansive Stadion Maksimir well. Romanian Dumitru Mitu posed the greatest threat for Zagreb and he gave an early indication of his danger when he shot over from 25 yards after four minutes. Seven minutes later Mitu struck an angled volley just wide of Fulham keeper Edwin van der Saar's near post after a neat one-two with Silvio Maric. Fulham beat Zagreb's rivals Hadjuk Split on their way to this stage of the competition and they immediately went up the other end and engineered their first chance. Steed Malbranque slid a powerful diagonal ball into the path of Marlet whose shot across goal went wide.
Steve Finnan put an effort just over for the visitors and Zagreb striker Bosko Balaban blazed over at the other end before Polovanec was dismissed. He was red-carded for bringing down a Boa Morte in full flight close to the halfway line as Fulham broke on the counter-attack. Boa Morte compounded the home side's misery when he rounded keeper Tomislav Butina and shot home from a tight angle to give Fulham the lead. Ivica Olic headed tamely, Mitu struck the Fulham woodwork and Balaban - on loan from English side Aston Villa - wasted another chance as Zagreb failed to find an equaliser. And they paid the price when Junichi Inamoto put Marlet clean through on goal after 59 minutes and the French international calmly slotted in a Fulham second. Hayles added a third to put the London club in a commanding position going into the return leg. Dinamo Zagreb: Butina, Smoje, Sedloski, Polovanec, Maric, Agic, Olic, Krznar, Mitu, Mikic, Balaban.
