Former Swindon Town striker Simon Cox had to endure a disappointing return to the County Ground.
His new club West Bromwich Albion were beaten 1-0 by the Robins in a pre-season friendly.
Defender Gordon Greer scored the game's only goal after 33 minutes, sealing victory for the League One side.
The striker moved from the County Ground to The Hawthorns for £1.5m earlier this month, signing a two-year contract with the Championship club.
Baggies manager Roberto Di Matteo said he was disappointed by the result.
"We have to work defensively. It's a team effort, and that's what we have to focus on," he told BBC WM.
West Brom start their Championship campaign on Saturday, 8 August against Newcastle United, and Di Matteo says he is starting to get prepared.
"I have a rough idea what the team is going to look like," he said.
"But there are still a few positions open so the players still have a chance to make an impression and show that they want to be part of the team."
