Walsall extend McDonald loan deal

Walsall

Walsall have confirmed that Clayton McDonald will stay at the Banks's Stadium on loan for a third month.

The 20-year-old Manchester City defender will be available to the Saddlers up to and including the trip to Millwall on Saturday, 12 December.

"Obviously thanks to Manchester City for allowing him to come to us again," noted Walsall boss Chris Hutchings.

"He's enjoying it, he's working hard and he's getting the experience they want him to get," he told BBC WM.

McDonald's attitude since being squeezed out of his starting place in the centre of defence by Manny Smith and Mark Hughes has also impressed the Saddlers manager.

The lads know that if they get an opportunity to get a shirt they've got to make sure they keep it

"Yeah Manny and Hughesy have got back in the side, he was injured, we've had some decent results and stuck by the boys who were in the side," Hutchings stressed.

"The lads know that if they get an opportunity to get a shirt they've got to make sure they keep it. Otherwise they're out and they've got to fight to get back in again."

McDonald, the son of former Saddlers striker Rod, has made eight appearances since arriving at the start of September, but has not got onto the field since the defeat at MK Dons on 10 October.
