Moxey backing Old Firm decision

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has backed the Premier League's decision not to allow Celtic and Rangers to move into England's top flight.

Moxey represented Wolves in London on Thursday when clubs voted on Bolton chairman Phil Gartside's proposal.

"We briefly discussed the issue and there was no appetite to take it further," said the former Rangers man.

"There was not enough interest from the clubs. It is the English Premier League after all, the message is clear."

Moxey told the club's website: "Yes, there are Welsh clubs in the English League.

"But they have been part of the fabric of our game and its history for over 100 years."

Wolves chief executive Moxey, now in his 10th season at Molineux, began his career in sports administration in the late 1980s with Rangers, where he was employed to run the club's basketball franchise.

He then switched to the football side of the operation at Ibrox before spending five years as general manager at Partick Thistle.

Moxey, 46, came south to join Stoke City as chief executive before taking up the post at Molineux in the summer of 2000.
