Walsall full-back Netan Sansara says he is grateful for the advice of injured defender Jamie Vincent, who he has replaced in the Saddlers team.
Sansara, 20, has started the last three games since the former Portsmouth defender damaged his calf.
"When he's watching the games he's always giving me feedback and that's what I need," Sansara told BBC WM.
"I can look up to a player like that, he's played at a decent level, and I can only learn from him."
Sansara was injured at the start of the season, which led to Saddlers boss Chris Hutchings bringing in the experienced Vincent as his first choice left-back.
But when the 34-year old pulled up during the warm-up at Colchester last month, the Walsall-born youngster was able to seize his chance.
"Credit to him, he went into the team and he's done very well," Sansara said.
He tells me what I need to improve and what I'm doing well

"But even now he still helps me on parts of my game and tells me what I need to improve and what I'm doing well."
There is a similar situation in the other full-back position at the Banks's Stadium, where 29-year-old Rhys Weston has been guiding 18-year old Darryl Westlake.
