Mattis joined Walsall on a free transfer from Barnsley in July 2008
Walsall midfielder Dwayne Mattis has admitted it was a dream moment to score the winning goal against his boyhood club Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old's first goal of the season helped the Saddlers to a 2-1 victory against the team for whom he played 79 games early in his career.
Mattis told BBC WM: "I've dreamt it like that since I was released by Huddersfield at the age of 21.
"I don't think I've ever hit the ball as sweetly as that with my left foot."
Mattis continued: "I've supported Huddersfield since I was eight or nine. I used to go and watch the games with my dad.
"I'll always support them but it was a sweet feeling for me to get the winner against them in the last minute."
The win over the Terriers was Walsall's first success at the Banks's Stadium since 17 March, and Mattis admitted it was a relief to pick up three points.
"We know we haven't been good enough at home, certainly since I've been at the club, and we know we've got to put that right," added the former Barnsley midfielder.
"Hopefully that's the first of a few that we'll win at home."
