Mattis says it is a fresh start for everyone with Chris Hutchings
Walsall midfielder Dwayne Mattis is keen to impress new manager Chris Hutchings following his appointment as Jimmy Mullen's successor.
Hutchings takes charge of the Saddlers for the first time at home to Hereford in League One.
"I think everyone will start with a clean slate, which always happens when a new manager comes in," said Mattis.
"You've just got to try and impress in training and get in the team for a Saturday," he told BBC WM.
Hutchings takes over the side after a poor run of two wins in their last nine league games, with the Saddlers sliding into the lower half of the table.
Mattis feels it could be a real eye-opener for the former Bradford and Wigan boss as he discovers how tough League One can be.
His first opponents, Hereford, are in the relegation zone but crushed play-off chasing Oldham 5-0 last weekend.
"No game's easy in this league, so we know even if they hadn't won 5-0 that this would be a difficult match," said Mattis.
"We're at home, the last few games at home we've done alright, so hopefully we can get the three points."
