Dwayne Mattis condemned former club Huddersfield to defeat with a late goal for Walsall.
Mattis hammered in a low left-foot drive after substitute Sam Parkin headed down a deep cross from Matt Richards three minutes from time.
Theo Robinson put the visitors in front early in the second half after bursting onto a pass from Jordan Rhodes.
Darren Byfield levelled from the penalty spot after Joe Skarz handled Alex Nicholls's header.
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings told BBC WM:
"I expect Huddersfield to be near the top of the table at the end of the season, so we're delighted with the win.
"I wanted a reaction from Saturday and we got it.
"The lads showed great character and we've come away with a deserved win."
Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds:
"In terms of the away team I thought we did a good job defensively, and the work ethic was good.
"I asked them at half-time to improve the quality on the ball - without it we did well, but with it we could have done better and we did improve and scored a good goal.
"I'm always looking to improve the squad if I can but I'm not going to bring people in who can't improve it."
