Bradley call-up blow for Walsall

Walsall's in-form midfielder Mark Bradley will miss Saturday's game at home to Cheltenham after being called up to the Wales Under-21 squad.

Bradley, 21, has scored in each of the Saddlers' last two games, after being recalled to the starting line-up.

"I'm delighted in a way but a little bit gutted in another way," Walsall manager Chris Hutchings told BBC WM.

"He's got his recognition again with Wales, so I'm delighted about that, but he'll miss the next game."

The Dudley-born player will be hoping to add to his eight caps for the Under-21s as they face a double-header against Luxembourg in the Uefa Championship qualifiers.

The first game is way from home on 27 March with the return in Llanelli on 31 March.

Bradley's call-up comes at a time when he is showing his best form of the season, culminating with the only goal in the Saddlers' 1-0 win at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

"It was probably the best bit of play of the afternoon and we scored a goal from it," said Hutchings.

"It was an excellent little bit of link-up play, the timing of Bradley's run was excellent and his execution was excellent as well."

The young Walsall midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team in his second full season in the senior squad, battling for a central position with the more experienced Stephen Hughes and Dwayne Mattis.

But his recall for the last two matches has coincided with back-to-back victories that have effectively secured the Saddlers' place in League One for another year.
