Alex Nicholls laid on all three goals for Walsall in the 3-0 win against Brighton
Young Walsall midfielder Alex Nicholls has earned praise for another eye-catching performance in Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Brighton.
Nicholls played a part in all three goals from the right-wing position he has taken on under Chris Hutchings.
"Since we've been here he's been one of our most consistent performers," said Hutchings' number two Martin O'Connor.
"I know sometimes he's a bit frustrated with himself, but he's a young lad, he's still learning," he told BBC WM.
"It's not his favourite position, but he works hard for the team and he works hard for himself."
The only downbeat note of the Brighton game was the second-half injury that forced off central defender Anthony Gerrard, who had scored the Saddlers' third goal just before half-time.
"He's torn his calf, which is three or four weeks out," said O'Connor.
"It's a blow. If we can get someone in we'll try but, if it doesn't happen, we'll persevere and get on with what we've got."
If Gerrard does not regain full fitness before the end of the season, he may well have played his last game for the Saddlers.
The cousin of Liverpool's captain is expected to be a transfer target for several Championship clubs this summer.
