Walsall resisted attempts to sign Gerrard before Monday's transfer deadline

Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen says he will be happy to continue picking Anthony Gerrard if the defender's attitude is right.

Gerrard put in a transfer request amid speculation of interest from Championship clubs but Walsall said no bidder matched their asking price.

Mullen told BBC WM: "I've had a chat with him.

"If he's not 100% behind us, and he's not 100% with the lads, then I can't pick him. But I'm sure he will be."

Mullen added: "I said to him that if his mind's OK and his heart's still here at this football club then if he continues to play like he did last week then he's in the team.

"But he's got to do that. If he doesn't, and his mind's not on it, then I'm afraid I can't play him."
