Walsall have confirmed Irish defender Anthony Gerrard has handed in a written transfer request.
The 22-year-old has recently been linked with a move and it is understood he wants to play at a higher level.
"Our policy is not to keep players who don't want to play for us," chairman Jeff Bonser told the club's website.
"However Anthony is under contract until 2010 and, unless a substantial offer is received from the Championship or Premier League, he won't be sold."
Such behind-the-scenes activity is bound to have an unsettling effect on the player

Bonser added: "Quite clearly Anthony Gerrard's representative has been actively trying to stimulate the interest of other clubs regarding the transfer of the player.
"Only last week we turned down an offer from a Championship club.
"However, such behind-the-scenes activity is bound to have an unsettling effect on the player and this, it seems, has led to Anthony handing in a written transfer request."
Birmingham have most recently been linked with the defender after Alex McLeish was present during Walsall's Carling Cup defeat to Darlington.
