Buckle trying to take Torquay forward

Torquay United boss Paul Buckle has said that whatever happens this season the Gulls will go out to try and win every match.

Torquay return to league football after a two-year absence on Saturday with a home game against Chesterfield.

Buckle told BBC Spotlight: "We've had two very successful seasons and have got used to winning games."

"We are going to win games if we get a good start and a bit of momentum going and the fans will play a role in that."

Returning to League Two is a major coup for the manager and his squad, the majority of whom were brought in by Buckle when he took over in 2007.

"That feeling of being back in the league will be fantastic and I think it'll start the morning of the game when we come into the ground - we'll realise what we've achieved," Buckle said.

"But, from day one when we've come back into pre-season, there's been a realism about things.

"The players have got their heads down and they're very keen to try and be successful.

Although Buckle believes his players have the ability to be competitive, he is determined not to underestimate the scale of the task facing the Gulls.

He said: "We're aware the bar has been raised and that the teams and the opposition are going to be a lot better.

"I'm confident the players at the club can raise their game because they're very ambitious as a group."
