New Plymouth Argyle signing Bradley Wright-Phillips looks set to miss the first two months of the season after suffering a knee injury.
The 24-year-old striker has suffered a lateral tear to the cartilage in his left knee and was scheduled to have an operation on Wednesday night.
He injured his left knee during a friendly with local rivals Exeter City.
And Wright-Phillips, signed on a free transfer last month, is not expected to be back before the end of September.
"Bradley has suffered a lateral tear," confirmed Argyle physio Paul Maxwell to the club's website. "It should be around another six weeks before he is able to return to training."
Wright-Phillips, stepson of former England striker Ian Wright and younger brother of England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, arrived at Home Park last month on a two-year deal after his contract came to an end at Southampton.
