Torquay United's 17-match unbeaten record came to an end on Tuesday night as they lost 1-0 to Forest Green Rovers in the Setanta Shield.
The Gulls looked to be heading to extra time until Mike Symons got the winner at the New Lawn in the 88th minute.
Torquay rested several first-team regulars with the likes of Michael Poke and Elliot Benyon handed starts.
The Gulls will now focus their attention on Saturday's Blue Square Premier match at home to Cambridge.
