Benyon came on early for Tyrone Thompson and scored twice
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle says his decision to bring on Elliot Benyon before half time of Saturday's 2-0 FA Cup win over Oxford was vindicated.
The striker, a 36th minute substitute, scored both goals to book a third-round tie at home to Blackpool.
"We made a change early in the game. Elliot came on and I felt it was right to change it," Buckle told BBC Radio Devon after the game.
"I'm never afraid to make changes early in the game if I think its right."
The Gulls had Roscoe Dsane sent off after 40 minutes for a slap on Oxford goalkeeper Billy Turley, leaving Buckle to rethink his tactics.
"All my team talk went out the window five minutes before half time," said Buckle.
"It's not nice seeing players get sent off, especially when they are in a yellow shirt, but it made for exciting times."
