Danny Stevens has been praised by his manager Paul Buckle after his showing during Torquay's 4-1 win over Lewes on Tuesday night.
The diminutive winger has been fighting to get his place back in the Gulls' line-up and took his chance after being included in the side at Plainmoor.
He repaid Buckle's faith in him by scoring twice and setting up a third.
"When he gives us width and takes his man on and delivers the ball we look a threat," Buckle told BBC Radio Devon.
Stevens joined Torquay as a free agent in the summer of 2007 and stayed at the club last summer despite interest from Crawley Town.
