Swindon Town launch search for future professional

Swindon Town

Swindon Town have launched a project to unearth a future star for the club.

Regional trials will be held throughout the UK, with the best players selected to take part in matches at three professional grounds.

The top 22 players will play a final at Swindon's County Ground, with manager Danny Wilson offering his chosen winner a 12-month contract in January 2011.

Wilson said: "This is a great idea, which has got everyone at the club really excited."

Chief executive Nick Watkins added: "We would be delighted if at the end of the project the new Charlie Austin was unearthed."

Austin joined Swindon from non-league side Poole Town in October 2009 and has gone on to score 19 goals in League One.
