Malpas was in charge at Swindon for just 10 months
Swindon Town chief executive Nick Watkins says the club need to take a long-term view when they appoint a new manager at the County Ground.
The Robins are looking for their 10th manager since 2000 after Maurice Malpas left by mutual consent in November.
Watkins told BBC Radio Swindon: "We can't continue to change the manager, it's not good for the club, the players or the fans.
"We have the opportunity to find the man who is going to provide stability."
Swindon lie 19th in League One. Despite not having won since October, Watkins said the club will not be rushed into appointing a new manager.
"Many names come and go, some because the fans get their excitement from speculating," said Watkins.
"We are taking the right amount of time and exercising due diligence to make as certain as possible that whoever comes in is the right man for the job.
"I understand the anxiety the fans may have, we don't want to leave it for too long, but we want to make the right decision."
