Shawcross has made over 80 appearances for the Potters
Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross says he has started talks over a contract extension at the Britannia Stadium.
Shawcross still has two years left on his current deal after signing a three-and-a-half year contract upon his £1m move from Manchester United in 2008.
The 22-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke: "We've started talks but it's a long process. I'm happy here. My family is happy here and I want to stay.
"These things can take months but there's no rush, I'm not too worried."
Stoke could eventually have to pay Manchester United a further £1m for the England Under-21 international dependent on appearances.
Shawcross was linked with a move away from Stoke over the summer, with Tottenham rumoured to be among his suitors.
