Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has tipped defender Ryan Shawcross to one day play for England.
The 21-year-old former Manchester United trainee has played 16 Premier League games this season and has broken into the England under-21 squad.
Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke: "Ryan should go all the way, there's not many top class young English centre-halves around and he's one of them.
"He's got the potential, he's quick, good in the air and has two good feet."
Shawcross, who was born in Chester, has been forced to sit out some games this season because of a back problem caused by growing pains.
He is now two inches taller, at almost 6ft 5in, than when he first moved to the Britannia Stadium on loan in August 2007.
"Ryan has grown a couple of centimetres in the last two months," said Pulis.
"He has these growth spurts and it puts pressure on certain areas of his back."
