Port Vale scored three times in the first 13 minutes to knock Stockport out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Lewis Haldane drove home the opener from a Marc Richards pass before Louis Dodds placed a shot past Paul Gerrard.
Richards connected with a Kris Taylor cross to claim the third with a half-volley from close-range.
Liam Bridcutt pulled one back for Stockport with a low 30-yard drive and the visitors forced Vale keeper Chris Martin in several saves.
