Ryan Shawcross has thanked manager Tony Pulis after a successful first season as a Stoke City player.
Shawcross told BBC Radio Stoke: "I was a nobody when I came here, but the manager took a gamble on me.
"The gaffer gave me a shirt and I managed to keep hold of it. Everything I've achieved is mainly down to him, I owe him a lot."
The 20-year-old was named as the club's young player of the year at an awards ceremony on Monday evening.
"In my wildest dreams I would never have thought that I could have achieved all I have this season and promotion to the Premier League would be the biggest achievement of all," he said.
The Potters will be promoted if they get at least a point against Leicester City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.
"We've always wanted to keep it in our own hands and we've done that. With a good week's training and a full house at the Brit on Sunday we'll be fine."
