Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has earned his first call up to the England Under-21 squad for next week's game with the Republic of Ireland. Shawcross told BBC Radio Stoke: "Obviously I'm delighted, I found out from watching the television, that was the first I heard."
"[Manager] Tony Pulis has been really good to me. A lot of credit should go to him for the way I've improved."
The 20-year-old has played 28 games for the Potters, scoring seven goals.
He initially joined from Manchester United on loan at the beginning of the season, but made that move permanent in January in a deal that could eventually rise to 2m - a Stoke club record.
